March 2026 Tax Calendar: Reporting Tips and Scheduling Prep

With the April filing deadline looming just around the corner, March is a pivotal month for ensuring your financial house is in order. Whether you are finalizing documents for a trust or managing personal income, keeping ahead of the calendar is the best way to mitigate stress.

March 10: Reporting Service Income

For those in the service industry receiving gratuities, accuracy is non-negotiable. If you received more than $20 in tips during February, you must report them to your employer by March 10 using IRS Form 4070.

You may also use a personal statement, provided it includes:

  • Your signature, name, address, and SSN.
  • Your employer’s name and address.
  • The period covered and the total tips received.

Your employer will withhold FICA and income taxes based on these reports. Note that if your regular wages are insufficient to cover these withholdings, the uncollected amount will appear in Box 8 of your W-2, requiring you to settle that liability when filing your annual return.

March 16: The Scheduling Threshold

We are officially one month away from the individual filing deadline. If you have not yet scheduled your tax preparation appointment, we strongly advise doing so now.

Clients meeting with tax professional

Don't let perfection be the enemy of progress. You do not need every single document in hand to secure your spot on our calendar. If you are waiting on a specific K-1 or bank statement, we can begin the work and flag the missing items for later.

A Note on Extensions

Even if you anticipate needing an extension, we must still prepare a preliminary return to estimate your tax liability. Remember, an extension to file is not an extension to pay. Preparing now helps you minimize interest and avoid late-payment penalties.

General Filing Rules

Weekends & Holidays: Per standard IRS protocol, if a due date falls on a weekend or legal holiday, it moves to the next business day.

Disaster Relief: For clients in areas affected by severe weather—a scenario we know can impact regions like Texas—deadlines may be automatically postponed. Verify your status below:
